The EP-318M is a Ready-to-Run electronic distributor for the Chrysler LA small block V8 family -- the 318, 340, and 360 cubic inch engines that powered decades of Dodge and Plymouth performance cars, muscle machines, and trucks. The LA small block is one of the most respected classic American V8 designs, and modern electronic ignition conversion is among the most effective reliability upgrades available for these vehicles.

Chrysler's original ignition systems evolved from contact-breaker points through the notorious Electronic Lean Burn (ELB) system of the late 1970s, which became infamous for hot-weather failures and nearly impossible diagnosis. The EP-318M replaces both aging points systems and the unreliable ELB system with a straightforward two-wire electronic distributor featuring a maintenance-free magnetic pickup and a robust internal electronic module.

Critical compatibility note: the EP-318M is designed for the classic Chrysler LA small block engine family only. It is NOT compatible with the Mopar Magnum engine series (5.2L and 5.9L Magnum) introduced in 1992, which uses a different distributor with an integrated cam position sensor. Verify your engine is the LA family (pre-1992 318, 340, or 360) before ordering.
