The EP-6508 serves Ford's legendary FE (Ford Engine) big block family — one of the most historically significant V8 engine series in American automotive history. The FE powered the Ford GT40 to multiple Le Mans victories, the NHRA-dominating Ford 427 Cammer, and the street-performance 428 Cobra Jet that shocked the muscle car era with its Mustang and Fairlane installations. Converting FE-equipped Galaxies, Fairlanes, and Mustangs to HEI ignition has become an increasingly popular upgrade as original FE ignition components become scarce after 50+ years of service.

The FE engine's distributor is distinctive — it mounts at the front of the engine between the cylinder heads rather than at the rear, as in most other American V8 designs. The EP-6508 is dimensioned specifically for the FE mounting position and drive configuration, ensuring correct shaft depth and drive gear engagement for the front-mounted FE distributor location. The 65,000-volt coil provides strong spark energy for the FE's large displacement combustion chambers.
