The EP-1832 is a complete standard-specification Optispark LT1 distributor for the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and Corvette C4 equipped with the LT1 5.7L V8 engine (1992-1994). The standard specification EP-1832 is the direct OEM-replacement counterpart to the billet-housing EP-8381, providing the same complete plug-and-play Optispark assembly at an accessible price point for general service applications.

The GM LT1 Optispark is a unique optical ignition system that replaced the conventional magnetic-pickup distributor in the fourth-generation Camaro and C4 Corvette. Mounted at the front of the engine and driven directly from the crankshaft, the Optispark provides a highly accurate crankshaft position reference signal to the PCM -- allowing the LT1 to deliver its characteristic combination of performance and fuel efficiency. The optical sensor inside the Optispark reads timing marks on a disc as it rotates, providing both cam synchronization and crankshaft position signals.

The EP-1832 ships as a complete ready-to-install assembly including the optical sensor, distributor cap, and rotor. OEM part number 10457702 is the primary factory reference for this application.

With over 25 years of distributor manufacturing experience, EP provides the automotive aftermarket with reliable OEM-specification replacement distributors for GM vehicles from the classic EFI era of the late 1980s through the mid-1990s -- a period when millions of C/K trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, and passenger cars were built with distributors that have now accumulated 30 or more years of service and are approaching or past their reliable service life.

EP ignition distributor manufacturing facility

Each EP GM Distributor ships as a complete plug-and-play assembly -- distributor body, cap, rotor, and all sensors -- ready for direct installation without modification. Reference OEM part numbers are provided for fitment verification. EP is part of the Ever-Power Group, also producing sprockets and a comprehensive range of mechanical transmission products.

Frequently asked questions

What are the symptoms of a failing GM EFI distributor?
Common failure symptoms for GM EFI distributors of this era include intermittent no-start conditions, engine stalling at operating temperature, erratic idle quality, loss of power under acceleration, and check engine codes related to the distributor reference signal or cam position sensor. The Vortec-era distributors (1996-2002) are particularly known for plastic housing cracking or warping from heat cycling, which allows oil or coolant contamination of the optical or magnetic pickup sensor inside the housing. The LT1 Optispark distributors (1992-1994) are known for moisture infiltration that degrades the optical sensor window, typically producing a characteristic hard cold-start condition that improves as the engine warms up.
Does the EP-1832 ship with the cap, rotor, and all necessary sensors?
Yes. The EP-1832 ships as a complete plug-and-play assembly including the distributor body, distributor cap, rotor, and all internal sensors required for operation in the listed applications. For Optispark LT1 units, the optical sensor assembly is included as part of the complete distributor. For standard EFI units, the magnetic pickup and cam position reference sensor are integrated into the assembly. No additional ignition components are required beyond the standard ignition module and coil already present on your vehicle.
What is the difference between the EP-1832 and the EP-8381 for the LT1 Optispark?
Both the EP-1832 and EP-8381 are Optispark LT1 distributors for the same 1992-1994 Camaro Z28 and Corvette LT1 application. The key difference is the housing material: the EP-8381 uses a CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum housing for improved thermal stability and seal retention, while the EP-1832 uses a standard housing specification. For high-mileage vehicles in severe service or for owners who have previously experienced Optispark failure, the EP-8381 billet aluminum housing provides additional longevity. For general service replacement, the EP-1832 provides reliable OEM-specification performance.
Is the Optispark distributor compatible with both 1992-1993 and 1994 LT1 applications?
The GM LT1 Optispark distributor changed between the first generation (1992-1993) and the revised design introduced in 1994. The key differences are the venting configuration and the connector type. First-generation (1992-1993) Optispark units are non-vented with a different electrical connector than the 1994 and later second-generation design. Verify which generation applies to your vehicle year before ordering. The XL-8381 (EP-8381) and XL-1832 (EP-1832) units listed cover the 1992-1994 Camaro applications -- confirm the OEM part number on your existing distributor for exact fitment verification.
Do I need to reset the timing after installing this distributor?
For most GM EFI applications of this era, the distributor does not require timing adjustment after replacement if the engine is set to top dead center (TDC) before the old distributor is removed and the new unit is installed in the same position. Most 1987-1995 GM TBI and EFI applications use a computer-controlled timing advance that does not require a timing light for replacement -- align the distributor housing marks and the rotor to the same position as the original unit. For 1992-1994 LT1 Optispark applications, the base timing is not adjustable in the field; the Optispark provides a crankshaft-referenced timing signal and the PCM controls all timing advance. Consult the factory service manual for your specific vehicle year and engine for the correct installation procedure.
How do I order the EP-1832 for export or wholesale?
EP supports single-unit orders for market sampling, carton quantities for repair shops and parts counters, and container-volume wholesale orders. Standard production lead time is 15-30 days. OEM branding and private-label packaging are available for qualifying volumes. Contact our team via the inquiry form or WhatsApp for pricing and availability.
