The EP-10A is a complete HEI (High Energy Ignition) distributor for Jeep and AMC vehicles powered by the legendary AMC inline V8 engine family spanning 290 through 401 cubic inches. The AMC V8 powered some of the most capable Jeep vehicles ever built — the CJ5 and CJ7 that defined recreational off-roading — as well as the performance-oriented AMC Javelin AMX that competed in Trans-Am racing and the Hornet SC/360 that surprised the performance car world with its power-to-weight ratio. Converting these vehicles from their original points-type or early electronic ignition to a modern HEI system is one of the most popular and cost-effective engine upgrades in the Jeep and AMC enthusiast community.

The HEI system replaced both the distributor cap and the external coil with a single self-contained unit, dramatically simplifying the ignition wiring while delivering a significantly stronger spark. The EP-10A integrates a 65,000-volt high-output coil directly into the distributor cap, eliminating the ballast resistor and external coil wiring that characterizes the original AMC ignition. The result is a cleaner engine bay, stronger and more consistent spark energy across the entire RPM range, and elimination of the intermittent failures associated with aging AMC ignition points, condensers, and external coil connections.
