The EP-1830 is the most widely applicable electronic distributor in the GM series -- a direct OEM replacement for the standard GM 5.0L (305 CID) and 5.7L (350 CID) V8 distributor used across an enormous range of Chevrolet and GMC trucks, SUVs, and passenger cars from 1987 through 1995. This single part number covers the full-size Blazer, C/K pickup trucks in all configurations, the Camaro, Caprice, El Camino, and G-series vans -- essentially every GM full-size vehicle using the 305 or 350 V8 with the TBI or early EFI management systems.

General Motors made a big mistake by cutting corners on the original distributor. The engine will far outlast the factory installed distributor. If you are going to replace this part, why not use an upgraded version made out of cast aluminum? The EP-1830 addresses this concern with a cast aluminum housing and improved component quality over the factory plastic-component Vortec distributors.

The EP-1830 replaces the broadest range of GM OEM part numbers of any unit in the EP catalog: 1103838, 1103698, 1103749, 1103791, 1103827, 1103839, 1103880, 110-3952, DST1830, 30-1830, 84-1830, and GM04. This wide cross-reference reflects the number of production variants GM produced across the 5.0L and 5.7L application range during the 1987-1995 model years.

EP GM distributor full series compatibility overview

Application scenarios

C/K truck fleet maintenance

Fleet operators running C1500 through C2500 trucks with 305 and 350 V8 engines replace high-mileage distributors with EP-1830 -- the definitive GM V8 truck distributor replacement.

Camaro and full-size Chevy service

Service shops maintaining 1987-1992 Camaro and 1987-1990 Caprice stock EP-1830 for the standard GM 305/350 distributor replacement.

High-volume GM V8 wholesale

The EP-1830 is the highest-volume single SKU in the GM distributor range. Wholesale distributors maintain substantial stock to serve the enormous population of 1987-1995 GM V8 vehicles still in service.

Installation guide

Disconnect battery. Mark distributor rotor position and housing alignment -- critical on EFI applications where timing is computer-controlled. Disconnect 4-pin or 2-pin electrical connector. Disconnect vacuum advance hose if present. Remove hold-down bolt and withdraw old distributor. Lower EP-1830 into position with rotor in the same location as noted. Tighten hold-down finger-tight. Reconnect connector and vacuum hose. On TBI/EFI applications, timing is computer-controlled and does not require adjustment if the distributor is installed in the same position as the original. Approximately 30-45 minutes.

HZPT is the international brand of Ningbo Xianlong Automobile Fittings Co., Ltd., established 1999. With over 25 years of distributor manufacturing experience, EP provides the automotive aftermarket with reliable OEM-specification replacement distributors for GM vehicles from the classic EFI era of the late 1980s through the mid-1990s -- a period when millions of C/K trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, and passenger cars were built with distributors that have now accumulated 30 or more years of service and are approaching or past their reliable service life.

EP ignition distributor production line

Each EP GM Distributor ships as a complete plug-and-play assembly -- distributor body, cap, rotor, and all sensors -- ready for direct installation without modification. Reference OEM part numbers are provided for fitment verification. EP is part of the Ever-Power Group, also producing electric motors and a comprehensive range of mechanical transmission products.

Frequently asked questions

What are the symptoms of a failing GM EFI distributor?
Common failure symptoms for GM EFI distributors of this era include intermittent no-start conditions, engine stalling at operating temperature, erratic idle quality, loss of power under acceleration, and check engine codes related to the distributor reference signal or cam position sensor. The Vortec-era distributors (1996-2002) are particularly known for plastic housing cracking or warping from heat cycling, which allows oil or coolant contamination of the optical or magnetic pickup sensor inside the housing. The LT1 Optispark distributors (1992-1994) are known for moisture infiltration that degrades the optical sensor window, typically producing a characteristic hard cold-start condition that improves as the engine warms up.
Does the EP-1830 ship with the cap, rotor, and all necessary sensors?
Yes. The EP-1830 ships as a complete plug-and-play assembly including the distributor body, distributor cap, rotor, and all internal sensors required for operation in the listed applications. For Optispark LT1 units, the optical sensor assembly is included as part of the complete distributor. For standard EFI units, the magnetic pickup and cam position reference sensor are integrated into the assembly. No additional ignition components are required beyond the standard ignition module and coil already present on your vehicle.
Does the EP-1830 fit both TBI (1987-1991) and EFI (1992-1995) GM V8 applications?
Yes. The EP-1830 covers the complete range of GM 5.0L and 5.7L V8 distributor applications from the TBI era (1987-1991) through the transition to multiport EFI (1992-1995). The extensive OEM cross-reference list reflects this broad coverage. The key fitment requirement is that the engine uses the standard GM magnetic-pickup distributor configuration -- not the LT1 Optispark (which is an entirely different unit) and not the 1996+ Vortec system. For 1996 and later Vortec V8 applications, see EP-1829A in this series.
Do I need to reset the timing after installing this distributor?
For most GM EFI applications of this era, the distributor does not require timing adjustment after replacement if the engine is set to top dead center (TDC) before the old distributor is removed and the new unit is installed in the same position. Most 1987-1995 GM TBI and EFI applications use a computer-controlled timing advance that does not require a timing light for replacement -- align the distributor housing marks and the rotor to the same position as the original unit. For 1992-1994 LT1 Optispark applications, the base timing is not adjustable in the field; the Optispark provides a crankshaft-referenced timing signal and the PCM controls all timing advance. Consult the factory service manual for your specific vehicle year and engine for the correct installation procedure.
How do I order the EP-1830 for export or wholesale?
EP supports single-unit orders for market sampling, carton quantities for repair shops and parts counters, and container-volume wholesale orders. Standard production lead time is 15-30 days. OEM branding and private-label packaging are available for qualifying volumes. Contact our team via the inquiry form or WhatsApp for pricing and availability.
