The EP-FD08 is a complete electronic distributor for the Ford 4.9L (300 CID) inline six-cylinder engine in 1992-1996 F-series pickups, Bronco, and E-series Econoline vans. The 1992 model year brought a revised distributor specification for the 4.9L six -- the OEM part numbers changed from the E7TE/E8TE series (1987-1991) to the F2TZ series, and the EP-FD08 covers this revised 1992-1996 configuration.

The Ford Bronco received the 4.9L EFI inline six as a reliable, economical alternative to the 5.0L and 5.8L V8 options. For 1992, the last model year of the full-size Bronco before production ended, the 4.9L six continued as the entry powertrain. The F-series pickups carried the 4.9L right through the OBS (1992-1996) generation as the base truck engine before Ford discontinued the 300 CID six in 1997.

Verify the OEM prefix on your existing distributor: F2TZ series means EP-FD08 is correct; E7TE or E8TE series means order EP-FD21 for the 1987-1991 version. Ships complete with TFI module, cap, and rotor.

Key features

1992-1996 revised 4.9L six spec

Covers the F2TZ-series distributor that replaced the earlier E7TE/E8TE spec in 1992 across F-series, Bronco, and Econoline with the 4.9L six.

Final years of the legendary Ford 300 CID

The EP-FD08 covers the last five years of the Ford 300 inline six production -- the OBS F-series era and the final Bronco model year.

Verify F2TZ OEM prefix

If your existing distributor shows F2TZ-12127-D or -DA, EP-FD08 is correct. E-series OEM numbers indicate EP-FD21 for the earlier application.

Application scenarios

OBS F-series 4.9L truck service

1992-1996 F-150 and F-250 truck owners with the 4.9L six replacing high-mileage distributors use EP-FD08 for the correct revised-spec unit.

Final-year Bronco 4.9L

1992 Bronco owners -- the last production year -- use EP-FD08 for the 4.9L six distributor replacement.

OBS-era Ford truck wholesale

Parts distributors serving the popular OBS F-series collector and daily-driver market stock EP-FD08 for the 4.9L six alongside the V8 options.

Installation guide

Disconnect battery. Confirm OEM number F2TZ-12127-D or -DA before installing (E-series numbers indicate EP-FD21 is needed instead). Locate the 300 CID six distributor at the rear of the inline engine. Mark rotor and housing positions. Disconnect TFI connector and vacuum hose. Remove hold-down and old distributor. Install EP-FD08 in same orientation. Reconnect connector and hose. No timing adjustment required on EEC-IV applications.

Quality assurance

Every EP Ford distributor is manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management. Each unit is individually tested for cap-to-rotor alignment, TFI module function (EFI-era units), pickup signal integrity, shaft seal condition, and distributor gear specification before shipment. CE-EMC electromagnetic compatibility certification, UL listing, and UKCA conformity confirm compliance across all major export markets. Units ship complete with cap and rotor -- TFI module included on EFI-era units where applicable.

HZPT is the international brand of Ningbo Xianlong Automobile Fittings Co., Ltd., established 1999. With over 25 years of automotive ignition distributor manufacturing experience, EP provides the aftermarket with reliable OEM-specification replacements for Ford vehicles across a 40-year production span -- from the 1958 Ford Club with its FE 390 V8 through the 1996 Econoline Super Duty with the 7.5L 460 big block.

EP ignition distributor manufacturing facility

Every EP Ford distributor ships as a complete, plug-and-play assembly with cap and rotor included. TFI (Thick Film Ignition) module is included on EFI-era distributors where the original unit carries a distributor-mounted module. No additional ignition components are required for direct OEM replacement installation. EP is part of the Ever-Power Group, also producing sprockets and a comprehensive range of mechanical transmission products.

Frequently asked questions

What are the symptoms of a failing Ford EFI distributor or TFI module?
The most common Ford EFI distributor failure is the TFI (Thick Film Ignition) module overheating and failing. Classic symptoms include: engine starts cold but stalls after reaching operating temperature, cools down and restarts, then stalls again -- the characteristic TFI heat-related failure pattern. Other symptoms include rough idle, loss of power at high RPM, intermittent no-start conditions, and a check engine code for the PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) signal from the distributor. The distributor body itself can also wear -- shaft play, worn drive gear, or deteriorated seals allowing oil contamination of the internal components. When the TFI module fails, replacing the complete distributor assembly (including the new TFI module) is more reliable than replacing the TFI module alone on a worn distributor housing.
Does the EP-FD08 ship with the TFI module, cap, and rotor?
Yes. The EP-FD08 ships as a complete plug-and-play assembly. For EFI-era Ford distributors (1984 and later), the unit includes the distributor body, TFI (Thick Film Ignition) module, distributor cap, and rotor. For Duraspark-era distributors (1975-1983), the unit includes the distributor body, cap, and rotor with the magnetic pickup assembly. For classic-era FE distributors (pre-1975), the unit includes the distributor body, cap, and rotor. No additional ignition components are required for direct OEM replacement. The unit is ready to install after transfer of the vacuum advance hose and spark plug wires from the old distributor.
Does the EP-FD08 fit both the 1992 Bronco and the 1993-1996 F-series with the 4.9L six?
Yes. The 1992 Ford Bronco and the 1992-1996 F-150/F-250/F-350 and Econoline E-series with the 4.9L 300 CID six all share the same F2TZ-12127-D revised distributor specification. The EP-FD08 covers the complete 1992-1996 range across all these platforms. Note that the Bronco used this engine only in 1992 (the last production year); F-series and E-series continued with the 4.9L through 1996.
What is the difference between distributor-mounted TFI and remote-mounted TFI?
Ford's TFI (Thick Film Ignition) module appears in two configurations: distributor-mounted, where the module clips directly onto the side of the distributor housing; and remote-mounted, where the module bolts to a separate heat sink bracket away from the distributor. Early EFI distributors (approximately 1985-1991) typically use distributor-mounted TFI. Later applications (particularly 1992-1996 F-series and Bronco) commonly use remote-mounted TFI to reduce heat exposure to the module. Additionally, there are two TFI module generations: the gray push-start module (1985-1993) and the black CCD (Computer Controlled Dwell) module (1994-95 Mustang and some later applications). The gray and black modules are NOT interchangeable. EP distributors ship with the correct module type for the listed application.
Do I need to reset the timing after replacing the Ford EFI distributor?
For most Ford EFI applications (1984 and later with EEC-IV), the base timing is computer-controlled and not adjusted with a timing light after distributor replacement -- provided the distributor is installed in the same orientation as the original. Mark the rotor position and housing alignment carefully before removing the old distributor, and install the new unit in the identical position. For 1983 EEC-III and earlier Duraspark-equipped vehicles, base timing IS field-adjustable and requires setting with a timing light after installation. For classic FE era vehicles (pre-1975), timing must always be set with a timing light after distributor replacement. Consult the factory service manual for your specific vehicle year and engine.
How do I order the EP-FD08 for export or wholesale?
EP supports single-unit orders for market sampling, carton quantities for repair shops and parts counters, and container-volume wholesale orders. Standard production lead time is 15-30 days. OEM branding and private-label packaging are available for qualifying volumes. Contact our team via the inquiry form or WhatsApp for pricing and availability.
