Overview

Basic Structure of High Precision Planetary Gearbox

Sun Gear

Sun Gear is located in the center of the planetary gearbox. It is usually connected with the input shaft or fixed on the housing as a stationary part.

Planet Gears

Planet Gears revolve and rotate around the Sun Gear. They are supported and held in relative position by the Planet Carrier. Each Planet Gear simultaneously meshes with the Sun Gear and the Ring Gear, sharing and distributing the load when power is input.

Planet Carrier

Planet Carrier is a structure with multiple Planet Gear shaft holes. It supports the Planet Gear and allows them to rotate relative to the Sun Gear. The Planet Carrier can be used as the output component or connected to another shaft to transmit or receive torque.

Ring Gear/Annulus

Ring Gear/Annulus is a large diameter ring gear with teeth fixed inside the housing. It meshes with the Planet Gears. In some applications, the Ring Gear can be used as the input or output end.

Bearings and Shaft System

Working Principle of High Precision Planetary Gearbox

Torque Transfer and Amplification

When power is transferred from the input shaft to the Sun Gear, the Sun Gear starts to rotate. Due to the simultaneous meshing of the Planet Gear with the Sun Gear and the Ring Gear, they begin to revolve and rotate. The load of the entire system is evenly distributed due to the action of multiple sets of Planet Gears, which significantly increases the torque at the output end, achieving torque amplification.

Speed and Transmission Ratio Control

By adjusting the tooth number ratio of the Sun Gear, Planet Gear, and Ring Gear, the speed relationship and transmission ratio between the input and output can be precisely controlled. For example, if there are many Planet Gears or the difference in the number of teeth between the Sun Gear and Ring Gear is large, the transmission ratio increases, the output speed decreases, and the torque increases accordingly.

Low Backlash Characteristics

High precision planetary gearbox focuses on reducing or eliminating the backlash between gears, also known as "zero/low backlash". This is usually achieved through precision processing, preloading technology, and component selection, ensuring extremely high motion accuracy and smoothness under any load.
