TM220 Series High Precision Planetary Gearbox Helical Gear Reducer, also known as servo motor planetary gearbox and low backlash planetary gearbox, is a type of gearbox that uses planetary gears to achieve high precision in motion control. High Precision Planetary Gearbox Construction

A high precision planetary gearbox has the following components:

  • Sun Gear: located at the center of the planetary gearbox and usually connected to the input shaft or fixed to the housing as a stationary component.
  • Planet Gears: orbit around the sun gear and are supported and held in relative position to each other by the carrier. They mesh with both the sun gear and internal ring gear, and distribute the load evenly.

  • Bearings and Shaft System: bearings in a high precision planetary gearbox support the input and output shafts as well as the planet carrier, ensuring stable rotation and smooth operation of the components.
  • Housing: a sturdy structure that encapsulates all internal components to provide stable support for the gears, protect the internals from external impurities, and may contain cooling or lubrication systems.
  • Shafts and Keys: the input and output shafts connect to the sun gear or planet carrier with keys to transmit power and ensure precise torque transmission and axial positioning.
  • Seals: seals are used to prevent lubricating oil leakage and contamination from entering the gearbox, ensuring a clean and well-lubricated state.

Working Principle

A high precision planetary gearbox works by transferring and amplifying torque, controlling speed and gear ratio, and reducing backlash. Its key working principles include:

  1. When power is transmitted from the input shaft to the sun gear, the planet gears start to revolve and rotate due to their meshing with both the sun gear and internal ring gear. The load is distributed and shared among multiple sets of planet gears, significantly increasing the output torque and achieving torque amplification.
  2. Speed and gear ratio can be precisely controlled by adjusting the number of teeth on the sun gear, planet gears, and internal ring gear. For example, if there are more planet gears or the difference in teeth between the sun gear and internal ring gear is larger, the gear ratio increases, the output speed decreases, and the torque correspondingly increases.
  3. High precision planetary gearboxes focus on reducing or eliminating gear clearance, which is also known as "zero/low backlash". This is achieved through precision machining, preloading technology, and component selection, ensuring high motion accuracy and smoothness under any load.
  4. Due to the even load distribution and multiple contact points, high precision planetary gearboxes offer excellent dynamic performance, including fast response, stable operation, and durability under heavy loads.
