If the equipment operates for more than 10 hours per day, the mechanical service factor should be selected based on the type of prime mover, number of operating hours per day, and the application type to which the equipment is connected and its load characteristics, ensuring that the catalog rated value of gears allows for momentary 100% overloads during start-up, braking, or running, up to a maximum of 10 times per day. Therefore, the catalog rated value of the selected equipment should be at least equal to or greater than half of the maximum overload achieved during its operation. By comparing the actual transmission load with the catalog rated values, the service life of the gearbox can be determined.
