Types of PTO Shaft

Types of PTO shaft

PTO is a device that takes power from one source and transfers it to other implements to bring them into action- that can't generate their power, such as wood chippers, rakes, and rotary. Precisely the Power Take-Off ( PTO) implies taking power from any powering source, and transmitting it to the attached implement or separate machine. The powering source can either be a running engine or any other method.

What is PTO Shaft?

PTO shafts are a key component that supplies mechanical energy between agricultural tractors and implements. It changes the engine's kinetic energy into hydraulic pressure that moves a PTO to turn and implement at whatever speed you want it to go, or in reverse if necessary. However, the shaft required daily check-up regular maintenance, because they pull heavy loads and any defects and deprivation can damage the PTO. The shaft generally consists of several parts including external and internal PTO yoke and universal joint Moreover, it also contains the safety shield and safety chain.

Types of PTO Shaft

There are basically three types of available in the market that are:

  • Transmission PTO Shaft
  • Two-stage Clutch
  • Independent PTO

Transmission PTO Shaft

The Transmission PTO is the oldest and simplest of all shaft types. This type can be directly connected to the tractor's transmission. Meaning it connects directly to transmission enabling you to engage a PTO as soon as it starts up. When the clutch levers on your truck or tractor are not being pressed down, this will not get activated until you do it. Meanwhile, it also leverages you to engage or liberate while driving, without any risk of disengaging.

Two-stage clutch (live)

The live PTO operates using a two-stage clutch shaft – it comes with two stages of transmission clutch. If you depress the clutch halfway in that case, the first stage permits you to use a PTO shaft and the second stage allows for control over its operation. Precisely it disconnects how your tractor transmits power from its engine while also enabling access to other attachments' functioning through an attached shaft (PTO). Besides, it allows you to use your shaft and slow down the tractor while still being able to control its association with the protonation of another operation like – powering sawmill, , thresher, rotavator, etc.

Independent PTO

Independent PTO shaft is a further innovation to the two stages clutch PTO shaft as well as being perfect for tractors. It is equipped with a clutch, which can be controlled entirely separately from the tractor's transmission. Meaning the PTO can be activated even if you have stopped the tractor or if it isn't moving, and it functions independently from the transmission clutch.

There are two sub-variant of Independent PTO: mechanical and hydraulic

The first type of independent axle is considered to be a more cost-effective option because it features a separate on and off switch that is distinct from the control lever of other PTO. Additionally, it does not require any extra equipment or maintenance costs besides what already comes with your tractor purchase to function properly as an integral component.

PTO standards may vary from region to region and luckily Everpower is the largest PTO gearbox manufacturer, so in our inventory, you can find options that absolutely fit your needs.
