A square shaft coupling is a connecting device, it connects two shafts (drive shaft and driven shaft) of a motor whose axes intersect at a small angle, their main purpose is to transmit power between the shafts. It brings up mechanical flexibility and provides tolerance for shaft misalignment. The two shafts do not get disconnected during the operation. Square shaft coupling can effectively cope with the eccentricity, angular deviation, and axial movement between the two shafts, it also transmits the torque efficiently and smoothly.

It consists of a pipe whose bore is carved to the required tolerance based on the square shaft size, they have a square hollow whose inner area is the same as the area of the other shaft. The hollow through the center locks or connects the two shafts in position. 

The square shafts are made from cast iron and it is easy to design and manufacture.

There is a driving side mount member that is attachable to the driving shaft and a driven side mount member that is attachable to the driven shaft is disposed of in an opposed manner.

In some Shaft coupling, it is set at an angle where the first angle and the second angle are set to approximately 45 degrees.

Whereas shaft coupling with road members, the first outer slide surface intersects the other slide surface at a right angle. The square shaft coupling has a cross-section between planes and rod members, intersects the longitudinal direction at a right angle.
